For me, for the filmmakers I came to love and respect, for my friends who started making movies around the same time that I did, cinema was about revelation. [...] It was about characters — the complexity of people and their contradictory and sometimes paradoxical natures, the way they can hurt one another and love one another and suddenly come face to face with themselves. It was about confronting the unexpected on the screen and in the life it dramatised and interpreted, and enlarging the sense of what was possible in the art form. And that was the key for us: it was an art form." – Martin Scorsese
We're thrilled to be spending a cinematic year in the company of Martin Scorsese, bringing one of his many masterworks to your local Picturehouse every month.
In the near-60 years since his directorial debut in 1967, Scorsese's been responsible for some of the greatest films ever made in Hollywood – and remains, to this day, one of the big screen's fiercest defenders. It's only right that we pay tribute to his work by putting it back where it belongs.

But his drive for the championship, and his paranoia, jealousy and rage, begin to destroy his marriage, his deepest friendships, and the career he fought to build.
